BRONX, NY – Excellence Community Schools is pleased to announce that Girls Prep II (Girls Preparatory Charter School of the Bronx II) at 263 E 203rd Street will expand to add single-gender classes for boys and change its name to Bronx Excellence 8. The Board of Trustees voted unanimously on the new name, which will take effect on July 7, 2026. Single-gender classes for boys will begin in fall 2026 for the 2026-27 school year. 

These changes will allow Excellence to better present Girls Prep II in its new era as a Bronx school committed to the academic achievements of young girls and boys in New York City and further acknowledge the campus as part of the Excellence Community Schools family.   

Over the last two years, Excellence has worked with Girls Prep II staff, scholars and families to strengthen the curriculum, academic outcomes, college readiness, and teacher development.  

As this partnership starts a new chapter—this time with additional single-gender classes for boys at what will become Bronx Excellence 8— the network hopes to build on the momentum of the 2025-26 school year while bringing an increased sense of togetherness and devotion to the communities it serves.
