BRONX, NY – Excellence Community Schools is excited to announce that Girls Prep I (Girls Preparatory Charter School of the Bronx) at 681 Kelly Street will officially become Bronx Charter School for Excellence 6 (Bronx Excellence 6). The Board of Trustees voted unanimously on the new name, which will take effect on July 7, 2026.

 

This change will allow Excellence to better present Girls Prep as a Bronx school committed to the academic achievements of young women in New York City and further acknowledge the campus as part of the Excellence Community Schools family.

 

Over the last two years, Excellence has worked with Girls Prep I staff, scholars, and families to strengthen the curriculum, academic outcomes, college readiness, and teacher development. As this partnership starts a new chapter—this time with Girls Prep I as Bronx Excellence 6— the network hopes to build on the momentum of the 2025-26 school year while bringing an increased sense of togetherness and devotion to the communities it serves.
