Why are the school names changing?   
The new names reflect the continued growth and alignment of Boys Prep, Girls Prep, Girls Prep II with the broader Excellence Community Schools network, while honoring their roles as a Bronx-based campuses serving scholars across the community. 

Why is Boys Prep (Bronx Excellence 7) expanding co-ed special education classes? 
This expansion helps ensure that all students receive the appropriate support and services outlined in their IEPs (Individualized Education Programs), while increasing access to high-quality programming. 

Will classrooms become co-ed? 
General education classes will remain single-gender. The 12:1:1 classes at Boys Prep (Bronx Excellence 7) will be co-ed.

When will these changes take place? 
The name changes will take effect on July 7, 2026, and the expansion to include boys will begin in fall 2026. Co-ed special education classes at Boys Prep (Bronx Excellence 7) will begin in fall 2026 as well. 

Will there be changes to the school uniform? 
Existing Public Prep uniforms will be honored. All future uniform purchases will follow the Bronx Excellence design.  

Will the curriculum change?  
No. Core curriculum and academic expectations remain consistent, with continued focus on college readiness and strong instructional practices. 

Will my child have to reapply or change schools? 
No. Current students will automatically continue at their schools under the new name. If you would like to apply for the co-ed special education classes at Boys Prep (Bronx Excellence 7), please contact Dr. Figueroa at sfigueroa@excellenceschools.org. 

Will adding boys affect resources or attention for girls at Bronx Excellence 8? 
We are committed to ensuring that all scholars—both girls and boys—receive the same access to high-quality education, support, and opportunities at all of our campuses. 

How will families stay informed? 
Families are encouraged to attend the upcoming town hall in summer 2026, where school leadership will share more information and answer questions.

How will student placement decisions be made for Special Education classes at Bronx Excellence 7? 
Placement will be determined by each student’s IEP and in compliance with DOE guidelines. 

Will there be changes to staffing or roles? 
Staffing will evolve as needed to support expanded special education programming, including potential additions or adjustments to meet student needs. 

Will there be additional hiring for special education? 
Staffing in special education to ensure compliance with IEP (Individualized Education Program) requirements and high-quality instruction is in progress.  

Will the curriculum change?   
No. Core curriculum and academic expectations remain consistent, with continued focus on college readiness and strong instructional practices. 

What should faculty and staff communicate to families? 
Please refer families to school leadership for questions and encourage them to attend the upcoming town hall in summer 2026.
