BRONX, NY – Excellence Community Schools is pleased to announce that Boys Prep (Boys Preparatory Charter School of New York) at 191 E 151 Street will expand to offer co-ed special education classes and officially become Bronx Charter School for Excellence 7 (Bronx Excellence 7). The Board of Trustees voted unanimously on the new name, which will take effect on July 7, 2026. Co-ed special education classes will officially begin in fall 2026 for the 2026-27 school year. 

These changes will allow Excellence to better serve special populations, present Boys Prep as a Bronx school committed to the academic achievements of young people in New York City, and further acknowledge the campus as part of the Excellence Community Schools family.   

Over the last two years, Excellence has worked with Boys Prep staff, scholars, and families to strengthen the curriculum, academic outcomes, college readiness, and teacher development. The expansion of special education classes at Excellence amplifies a dedication to ensuring all students have adequate support and equal opportunities to achieve. Co-ed special education classrooms at Bronx Excellence 7 will cater to scholars with recommendations for Individualized Education Program (IEP) placements in 12:1 and 12:1:1 classrooms.

As this partnership starts a new chapter—this time with expanded co-ed special education classes at what will become Bronx Excellence 7—the network hopes to build on the momentum of the 2025-26 school year while bringing an increased sense of togetherness and devotion to the communities it serves.
