Single-Gender Options

Starting for the 2025-2026 school year, Excellence Community Schools expanded its offerings to include Boys Prep (Boys Preparatory Charter School of New York), Girls Prep I (Girls Preparatory Charter School of the Bronx), and Girls Prep II (Girls Preparatory Charter School of the Bronx II).

Now known as Bronx Charter Schools for Excellence 6-8, these schools were built on the premise that every family deserves the right to an excellent, tuition-free, single-gender public school education. While single-gender schools have long been a staple of the New York education system, they have been historically inaccessible, associated with high-priced tuition and acceptance processes that are often times exclusive and inequitable.

We give families an option that is free, public, and open to all. We empower girls and boys to discover their full potential in a joyful learning environment.

We aim to guide children to realize their inherent greatness. From a very young age, we reinforce to our scholars that they are agents of change. We guide scholars to embody the values of scholarship, excellence, community, and integrity as they develop their abilities to read, write, listen, speak, create, and think critically across disciplines. With a particular focus on science, the arts, and math, we prepare them to navigate and contribute meaningfully to an increasingly complex world.
