About Us

Excellence Community Schools prepares young people in New York City and Stamford to compete for admission to and succeed in top public, private and parochial high schools by cultivating their intellectual, artistic, social, emotional, and ethical development. We accomplish this by offering a challenging and rigorous academic curriculum, which at the earliest of grades has an eye toward college preparation. We achieve this in a supportive and caring environment that maintains high expectations for all students.

We are a network of tuition-free public charter schools.

The Excellence Model

This model is the basis for the 2012 National Blue Ribbon Schools Award from the U.S. Department of Education in the category of Exemplary High-Performing Schools.

 Learn more about our approach

High Academic Standards

Our program is aimed at supporting all children in reaching their maximum potential through personalized learning plans.

Flexible Learning Groups

Our program is designed to be challenging and engaging. Flexible and easily adaptable learning groups are tailored to each child's specific needs.

Liberal Arts Curriculum

We provide instruction in core subjects and co-curriculars to promote foundational academic knowledge and critical thinking skills.

Extended School Days

Longer school days allow for instruction in core subjects and well-rounded educational enrichment. Students receive lessons in a safe, reliable learning environment.

Behavioral Standards

We cultivate a nurturing, yet highly accountable learning environment. Reduced student-to-teacher ratios allow more frequent and personalized interactions.

Mandatory School Uniforms

School uniforms help reduce socio-economic tensions that might otherwise distract students from learning, while providing a public symbol of unity and pride.

Family and Community Engagement

Parents play an active role within the school community, and we build partnerships with local businesses and organizations to support our initiatives.

Organizational Learning

Our commitment to developing staff and building leadership within our organization through extensive professional development contributes to the success of our schools and community.

Voices of Excellence

Bronx Excellence 2 Principal Sharleen Morris smiles while seated at a classroom desk.

To be a principal of one of our National Blue Ribbon Schools has been a tremendous honor. Our teachers and staff have done so much to prepare our scholars for such a rigorous academic curriculum and they show them so much love that we've been able to achieve the results that we have.  Sharleen Morris, Deputy Chief of School Performance

ECS has stayed with me throughout. They've helped me find programs I'm interested in that pertain to careers that I want to explore. Gloria, Class of 2021

I had the role of being both a teacher and a parent at the school...My daughter grew socially and academically... I couldn't think about her being where she is now without the level of preparation and rigor that she was getting right here at BCSE. allen michel, ACADEMIC DEAN AT BRONX EXCELLENCE 3 & Parent of the class of 2022

I had amazing teachers that helped me whenever I needed it. The whole staff supported me and really brought me to where I am today.  Toran, Class of 2024

An Excellence parent of the class of 2024 poses in front of Bronx Excellence 1.

[My son] attended a different school for kindergarten. He was one of the brightest kids in his class, and I wanted him to be in a place where I felt like he was going to be challenged. ECS did that for him, and I appreciated that even though sometimes the work was a little hard the staff was very supportive. Jana, Parent of the Class of 2024
